Scoot to impose 3kg limit on cabin baggage as part of Covid-19 precautions, rest can be checked in free

Budget airline Scoot will impose a limit of 3kg on cabin baggage for all passengers, it announced on May 9.

The 3kg limit will take effect from June 1, 2020, and applies to passengers with both Economy and ScootPlus tickets, although Scoot said that the remaining cabin baggage could be checked in at no additional cost.

The current limits on cabin baggage for its Economy and ScootPlus tickets were 10kg and 15kg respectively.

This is to "limit baggage on board and facilitate security clearance and boarding," Scoot said, and is intended to "help to minimise congestion in the aircraft during boarding and disembarkation."

Responding to queries from Mothership, Scoot added that:

"The additional precautions are undertaken in the interest of safeguarding the health and safety of passengers and crew. Scoot understands that certain passengers may have unique needs and will assess on a case by case basis."

Additional precautions from CAAS

Scoot will also implement additional precautions to comply with a directive from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS).

The precautions include:

  • Compulsory wearing of masks at all times during flights.
  • Requirement for passengers to submit a Health Declaration form prior to check-in.
  • Temperature screening at check-in.

These measures are effective from May 10, 11:59pm.

Customers warned of "uncertainties"

Scoot warned its customers that "Covid-19 continues to pose uncertainties" and encouraged customers to purchase travel insurance and "prepare for possible contingencies".
