Non-teaching Toa Payoh preschool staff tests positive for Covid-19 after proactive screening

An Indian national due to start plumbing work at a preschool has also been confirmed to be infected.

A non-teaching preschool staff member was among the 506 new cases of Covid-19 announced by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on May 30.

The staff member is a 45-year-old female permanent resident who reported onset of symptoms on May 10.

She had been tested as part of the screening all preschool staff have to go through ahead of the June 2 phased reopening.

She was eventually confirmed to have the virus on May 29, but not before she went to work at My First Skool @ 192 Lorong 4 Toa Payoh.

The woman is currently classified as a local unlinked case in the community.

According to MOH, those who have been identified as close contacts of confirmed cases have already been notified.

Another local unlinked case to have been picked up as a result of proactive screening was a 26-year-old male Indian national.

He had to undergo a swab test as he was a due to start work on a plumbing project at a pre-school.

Over 33,100 tests performed

Previously, MOH director of medical services Kenneth Mak said at a May 28 virtual press conference, that over 33,100 tests had been performed on preschool staff as of May 26.

At the time, Mak said that 12 positive cases had been uncovered by the screening.
