The Singapore Police Force (SPF) have debunked a rumour that the police and National Environment Agency (NEA) officers would be actively enforcing circuit breaker measures by checking on residential units.
SPF said the message had been circulating on social media and text messaging platforms, and advised members of the public not to spread false rumours. It also urged members of the public to comply with safe distancing measures, and to refrain from gathering with family and friends who do not live together.
As part of stricter safe distancing measures, all forms of gatherings involving persons of different households are not allowed, as part of the nationwide circuit breaker in effect since April 7.
The discredited message read as follows:
"Salam to all bro and sis.. take note.aku dpt information from kawan aku yg keja gdn NEA.dia pesan beri tahu adek bradek dn saudara mara.pada hariraya na(?).jgn perfi visit.rumah kerumah. dan juga pesan dgn anak2 atau menantu tk perlu keluar raya dtg rumah.sbb NEA dn POLICE.dorng begabong tampa pakai uniform.utk sapa2 dtg visit.harap maklum.assalamulaikum.. 1st NOC $300, 2nd NOC $1000...subsequent offence will be naik court."
This translates to:
Greetings to all bro and sis, please take note.
I received information from a friend who works at NEA.
She informed her family and relatives that during Hari Raya, don't go visiting people's houses.
Also warn your family that you don't need to visit others, or have others come visit you. Because NEA and police will go around, in plainclothes, to check. Please be informed.
First offence $300, second offence $1,000, third offence go to court
The police previously debunked rumours about house visits for enforcement of circuit breaker measures.
They said, however, that action would be taken if police came across breaches in the course of dealing with other complaints.
