Some businesses are reopening in Singapore on June 2, 2020.

And pet owners can heave a sigh of relief, as services such as basic pet grooming, and animal physiotherapy and rehabilitation sessions will be back.

List of pet services that will resume on June 2

According to Multi-Ministry Taskforce's announcement on May 19, the following pet establishments will resume their services about two weeks from now:

Basic pet grooming services

  • Cleansing for hygiene purposes; including teeth brushing for dental hygiene, emptying anal glands, ear cleaning and medicated baths
  • Nail clipping
  • Maintenance of skin and fur, including anti-parasitic treatment
  • Clipping of flight feathers, beak trimming, maintenance of skin and feathers, including anti-parasitic treatment (for pet birds)
  • Any other treatment prescribed by a vet

Animal physiotherapy & rehabilitation

  • For the management of chronic joint and muscle conditions
  • Physiotherapy/rehabilitation for post-surgery recovery

Physiotherapy and rehabilitation will be allowed only with a referral from attending veterinarian.

The above-mentioned establishments do not need to apply for an exemption before resuming their operations.

Pet services that will not resume on June 2

In an effort to gradually reopen services in a safe way after the circuit breaker period, some pet services and businesses will remain closed.

This includes pet sitting, day care, walking, boarding, and the sale of pets.

Cosmetic pet grooming, such as styling of pets’ fur and spa baths are not allowed as they fall outside the purview of maintaining pet health and welfare.

No changes to veterinary services that are allowed

Responding to queries from Mothership, the National Parks Board (NParks) said there are no changes to veterinary services.

Some of the essential veterinary services include the provision of emergency, non-elective services, vaccination of animals for the purpose of herd health and sterilisation under national programmes, such as the Trap-Neuter-Release-Manage program and Stray Cat Sterilisation Program.
