PAP politicians send Low Thia Khiang thoughts & prayers after his fall

He is currently conscious and is being monitored in ICU.

The Workers' Party (WP) revealed on May 3, that its former chief Low Thia Khiang is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after a fall at home on Apr. 30.

The news triggered an outpouring of thoughts and prayers by several of Low's political opponents, who wrote on social media to express their well-wishes to the well-respected politician.

Chan Chun Sing

Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing expressed his concern for Low's condition and wished he a quick recovery.

"I just had a good, long conversation with him at the last Parliament sitting. I look forward to seeing him again soon."

Tan Chuan-Jin

Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin said that Workers' Party chief Pritam Singh had applied for leave from Parliament on behalf of Low, who is known for never missing parliamentary seating and has an impeccable attendance record.

Tan said that at the time he did not know how serious the fall had been.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Mr Low. Wishing you speedy recovery," he wrote.

Alex Yam

Alex Yam, a member of Parliament (MP) for Marsiling-Yew Tee wrote a post dedicated to Low accompanied by a 3D image of the former leader of the opposition.

"While we may side on opposing sides of the political divide, we are fellow Singaporeans and Mr Low is a veteran parliamentary colleague," wrote Yam.

He also noted that Low had been gracious and friendly since Yam's entry into Parliament.

"I wish him well and pray for his full recovery."

Cheng Li Hui

Tampines MP Cheng Li Hui wrote about Low's grandson, saying that she had intended to pass Low a pair of matching blue masks for the grandfather-grandson duo.

"Met the adorable boy at NDP last year," she said.

"Only grandchildren can make grandparents smile so sweetly. Here's wishing Mr Low a speedy recovery."

Desmond Lee

Minister for Social and Family Development Desmond Lee was another to extend his thoughts and prayers "for a good and speedy recovery" to Low and his family.

Tharman Shanmugaratnam

Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam wrote: "Very much hope that Mr Low recovers well and gets back to his vigorous self."

Tharman also sent his best wishes and thoughts to Low's wife and family.

Victor Lye

Victor Lye, who ran against and lost to Low in 2015's general elections, also wished the Aljunied MP a speedy recovery.

Lye said that he was sorry to hear about Low's fall at home.

"My fellow Aljunied GRC & Hougang SMC PAP branch chairmen and I wish him a speedy recovery."

A statement released by the Workers' Party said that Low had fallen at home on Apr. 30 and suffered a head injury.

He is currently conscious and is being monitored in ICU.
