Mynas in Yishun have been caught pecking at slabs of raw pork at a braised duck stall in Yishun.

Mynas eating raw pork

The video, which was taken by one Mr Hong, shows three mynas perched on several slabs of raw pork hanging at the back of a coffeeshop stall.

The birds can be seen pecking at the meat. The video then pans out to show that the stall sells braised duck.

Two employees are busy serving customers at the front of the stall, seemingly unaware of their feathered friends.

Here's a short gif:

Stall located at Yishun

The 55-year-old Hong told Shin Min Daily News (SMDN) that the incident happened on May 3, at around 5pm.

The stall in question was located at a coffeeshop at Block 293 Yishun Street 22.

Hong was patronising another stall at the coffeeshop when he noticed the birds pecking the slabs of raw pork hanging at the back of the braised duck stall.

Hong told SMDN:

"If the mynas are contaminated and they touch the raw pork or defecate on it, it's very unhygienic. I bought char siew rice with roasted pork in the afternoon and when I think back about it, I feel very disgusted."

He added that he doesn't dare to patronise the stall anymore, even more so now that Singapore is in the midst of a pandemic.

Slabs of meat have been discarded

When SMDN went down to the coffeeshop, they spotted a few mynas outside the back of the stall, where there was a rubbish dump.

The stall owner, a 55-year-old Mr Hu told the Chinese paper that he cannot seal up the window grille at the back because it has to remain open to ventilate the stall:

"We usually cover the meat that have been cooked, but even if we cover the raw meat, the birds will find little gaps to peck at the meat. We can't keep an eye on the kitchen all the time."

Hu also told SMDN that he has been seeing more birds in recent days and it's increasingly difficult to be on guard against them.

As for the slabs raw meat that were pecked by the birds, Hu said that they have been discarded, and apologised to customers for the incident.
