M'sia mall uses mannequins to encourage physical distancing between shoppers

Might work better than intended.

A mall in Malaysia has come up with a resourceful, if not creepy method to ensure shoppers ensure safe distancing measures.

In a Facebook post on May 19, Sunway Pyramid announced that they have placed mannequins on the mall's benches, so that only one person is allowed to sit on a single bench at any one time.

In addition to their role as safe distancing ambassadors, the mannequins are also meant to display outfits from the mall's retail tenants.

"If you spot them, don’t be scared," the mall wrote, as if knowing that shoppers would be spooked.

While the mannequins look freaky enough sitting on the benches, a shopper upped the creep factor by capturing a wide shot of the nearly-empty mall with the mannequins lined up.

The scenario was first spotted mrbrown, who likened it to a horror house.

On May 10, Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the country's Movement Control Order (MCO) will be extended by another month to June 9.

An empty mall littered with mannequins might just deter shoppers altogether, though.
