Exclusively Mongrels Limited (EML), the welfare group in the middle of the Loki controversy, has sent a letter via their solicitors from Eugene Thuraisingam LLP to Mount Pleasant Vet Centre (Changi).

The centre allegedly performed euthanasia on Loki, a healthy dog, who was supposedly given up by its owners for being aggressive.

Questions for Mount Pleasant Vet Centre (Changi)

The letter, which is dated May 16, asks the following questions:

  • What was the date of Loki's demise?
  • Was the euthanisation classified as a non-elective or emergency procedure under the prevailing Circuit Breaker measures?
  • What steps were taken by you before the decision was made to euthanise Loki?
  • Were you aware that Loki's owners were contractually bound not to (euthanise) Loki?

The letter also referred to the Singapore Veterinary Association's Code of Ethics.

These include guidelines such as a veterinarian being entitled to refuse a euthanasia if it is not deemed necessary. Informed consent in writing for the euthanasia should be obtained, as far as possible.

The letter seeks Mount Pleasant's confirmation that the euthanasia was performed in line with Animal and Veterinary Service Guidelines and SVA's Code, and that they obtained informed consent in writing before euthanising Loki.

Mount Pleasant Veterinary Group's statement

The letter specifically referred to a public statement from Mount Pleasant Veterinary Group on May 13, which addressed the controversy.

The group said that euthanasia is neither "convenient" or "easy", and it does not interfere in the prior agreements between a re-homer and the adopters, which it considers a private matter.
