Donald Liew, one of two recipients of a letter of demand from Manpower Minister Josephine Teo, posted a public apology on May 20.

Teo instructed her lawyers to send letters of demand to two people in Singapore, who were deemed to have made false statements accusing Teo and her husband of profiteering and corruption.

The letters asked them to withdraw their accusations, but stopped short of taking them to court.

Liew's apology

The apology was issued by Liew on his Facebook page at around 11pm on May 20.

It says that "these allegations are false and completely without foundation. I apologise unreservedly to Mrs Josephine Teo for making them."

The apology also contains an undertaking from Liew not to publish any further statements on the matter, and states that the original statement has been removed.

The letters of demand had also required the two recipients to make a donation of S$1,000 each to the Migrant Workers’ Assistance Fund, though Liew's post did not state whether he had indeed made such a donation.
