A python was spotted at Block 243 Hougang Street 22 on Tuesday (May 5).
Here's a picture of it:
Believed to have eaten a small cat
A resident told Shin Min Daily News that she heard some people witnessing the python swallow a small grey cat.
Another resident was also worried about his cats when he heard that a python was in the area.
He said:
"I counted and luckily the eight cats at home are all around. Then when I go to the car park and saw the python, which was about three metres long, curled at one corner... I saw the python's stomach bloating up, thought it might have really eaten up a cat."
Python was about 2.5 metres long
Responding to queries from Mothership, ACRES said that they received a call regarding the python at around 3:30pm on May 5.
The snake had an average size range of about 2.5 metres.
ACRES also said that the snake had a bulge at one part of its body, indicating that it had likely eaten something, possibly common prey animals like pigeons, rats or cats.
As members of the public were crowding around the python when ACRES staff were rescuing it, ACRES stated:
"We urge the public to keep a safe distance from wild animals as crowding may cause unnecessary stress to the animals.
Given the current situation, it is equally, if not more important, that public keeps a safe distance from one another and not crowd around."
King cobra spotted on May 3 near Marsiling MRT station
Previously on May 3, a 3-metre king cobra was seen slithering around a HDB estate near Marsiling MRT station.
According to ACRES, the snake was unharmed and released at a suitable location.
