A group of seniors were spotted gathering at a bus stop in Marsiling on Sunday, May 17.

People gathered at Marsiling Lane

According to Shin Min Daily News, about 40 people were gathered near 20 Marsiling Lane at around 2pm that day.

When a reporter went down to the scene, there were some people sitting by the road, with others gathering near the empty space outside the food centre.

Most of them were seen holding a mobile phone, and it is believed that they were watching live horse-racing.

Shin Min also reported that there were around seven to eight persons sitting at the bus stop, including one woman believed to be a "bookie" with people allegedly placing bets and carrying out cash transactions with her.

According to the Chinese newspaper, she was seen counting money and allegedly said, "Pay up!"

A 52-year-old man known as Wang told Shin Min that this group of people has been appearing since April, and he said that he has called the police over this.

He said they would typically be there from around 12pm until 7pm.

He also believes that they used to gather at the hawker centre or park to bet on horse races.

However, due to the safe distancing measures, many of these spots have since been closed off to the public.
