Daniel Teo, former member of the Progress Singapore Party (PSP), has apologised publicly to Singapore People's Party Chairman Jose Raymond for making false allegations about him in an "Anonymous-style" video.

A short clip fashioned after the hacktivist Anonymous video made the rounds online over the weekend (May 2), which claimed that the PSP, led by Tan Cheng Bock, has been "infiltrated by foreign proxies".

Teo, 36, who was a former member of the PSP communications team, was involved in the production of the video.

On May 5, Teo shared an "apology and undertaking" on his Facebook page, which you can see below:

In it, he declared that his allegations that Raymond is involved in a conspiracy to disrupt the PSP, among others, were false and completely without foundation.

He also "unreservedly" apologised to Raymond for the distress and embarrassment caused by the false allegations.

The Facebook apology is part of a settlement reached by Raymond and Teo. It will remain on Teo's Facebook account for one year.

Teo has been expelled from the PSP.

Raymond suggested Teo donate to ST Pocket Money Fund

Raymond had served a Letter of Demand to Teo to admit that the allegations are false, apologise via The Straits Times and his own Facebook account, and to pay damages.

While Teo agreed to withdraw the allegations and apologise publicly, he sought a compromise with Raymond instead of paying damages.

Raymond agreed to waive the damages as a gesture of goodwill.

Instead of paying for an apology to be published in The Straits Times, as Raymond first proposed, Teo has agreed to instead donate the equivalent sum of money that would have been spent on the apology to the Straits Times Pocket Money Fund instead.

The fund supports students from low-income families.

Raymond's lawyer, Eugene Thuraisingam told Mothership that the "serious false allegation" made against Raymond could not go unchallenged. He said:

"A very serious false allegation had been made against Mr Raymond. It could not go unchallenged. We were instructed by Mr Raymond to take immediate action against Daniel.

While such a false allegation should never have been made in the first place, we are happy that Daniel has quickly come clean and admitted that the allegation was false and has sincerely apologised for his actions.

Mr Raymond has accepted his apology and has decided not to proceed to claim damages from Daniel, something which he is entitled to by law."
