SMRT staff at Bishan MRT station contracts Covid-19

The surfaces the woman came into contact with have been disinfected.

A 58-year-old SMRT service ambassador contracted Covid-19 and has been hospitalised.

SMRT confirmed the news to CNA on May 19.

The woman worked as a service ambassador for the Circle Line.

She stopped going to work after the onset of her symptoms.

Her last day at work was on May 15.

SMRT said the employee felt unwell on May 17 and consulted a doctor.

She was referred to the hospital for a swab test and tested positive that day.

The Ministry of Health reported 305 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore on May 18.

The SMRT employee at Bishan MRT station was one of the two Singaporean cases reported that day.

She is an unlinked case.

SMRT is assisting the health ministry with contact tracing.

SMRT said the premises the woman had come into contact with have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Singapore has confirmed 28,343 Covid-19 cases and 22 deaths linked to the novel coronavirus outbreak.
