The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced that Singapore and China will work towards launching a "fast lane" arrangement for travel very soon.

This was announced in the joint press release after the 2nd China-Singapore Joint Meeting on Covid-19 held via a video conference on May 28.

Fast Lane between 6 Chinese provinces/municipalities and Singapore in early June

The meeting was attended by Singapore's MFA Permanent Secretary Chee Wee Kiong and China's Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Luo Zhaohui.

Representatives from both countries in various fields such as education, trade and industry, customs, immigration, transport and health were also present.

The Fast Lane is expected to be launched in early June to facilitate essential travel for business and official purposes between the two countries, with effective Covid-19 prevention and control measures in place.

This arrangement will first allow travel between six Chinese provinces or municipalities directly under the central government and Singapore.

These provinces or municipalities are Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Guangdong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang.

The arrangement will gradually expand to the rest of China, the press release added.

The two countries have also agreed to enhance trade connectivity between Western China and Southeast Asia, financial connectivity and strengthening third-party market cooperation.
