On Apr. 16, it was announced that Case 42, a 39-year-old Bangladeshi worker had been taken off the ventilator and was finally out of the intensive care unit (ICU) after more than two months.
The patient was confirmed to have Covid-19 in February and had been in critical condition since Feb. 7.
On Thursday, May 21, the identity of Case 42 was revealed in a video by the man himself, identified as Raju Sarker, posted by the Migrant Workers' Centre.
Expressed gratitude and asked for prayers
Speaking in Bengali from what appeared to be a hospital bed, Raju voiced his thanks to the Singapore government for the free medical treatment, and to the doctors and nurses who nursed him back to health at the hospital.
He also expressed gratitude to his company and MWC for supporting his family, as well as to the people who prayed for him.
On Feb. 24, MWC announced in a Facebook post that Raju was his family's sole breadwinner.
As such, MWC worked with Raju's employer (Yi-Ke Innovations) and his dormitory operator (Mini Environment Service) to provide a S$10,000 assistance package to his family.
In the video, Raju also addressed other migrant workers, asking them to observe the government regulations, and told them to rest assured that the government will support them if they fall sick.
Expressed gratitude and asked for prayers
He closed his message by asking for prayers and expressing thanks:
"Please pray for me. I am okay now. I want to continue to live a healthy and happy life with my wife and child, so please pray for me. Thank you everyone."
Raju's wife had been heavily pregnant while he was in the ICU, and had reportedly been under the impression that he was "having a normal flu".
She had only found out that her husband had Covid-19 when his cousin, who also works in Singapore, called and informed her that Raju was in critical condition and had been admitted to hospital.
Then, on Mar. 31, local community initiative ItsRainingRaincoats (IRR) shared on Facebook that Raju's wife had given birth to a "beautiful baby boy", and that both mother and baby were doing well.
According to a Facebook post by NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng, Raju will soon be moved into a community hospital that focuses on rehabilitative care, in order for him to recuperate.
When he was released from the ICU, he had been warded in a general ward at NCID.
"Raju’s recovery journey is nothing short of amazing and I believe that this will encourage our healthcare and frontline workers to continue doing their best for Singapore," wrote Ng.
