28 airports re-open for domestic flights in Thailand

International flights, however, are still banned.

Thailand's aviation authority is allowing 28 airports to reopen for domestic flights, according to Xinhua.

International flights, however, are still banned.

Airports opened for public holidays in May

According to The Star, the airports are being opened in anticipation of public holidays in May.

Department of Airports director general Tawee Gasisam-ang reportedly said that 32 domestic flights would be allowed to operate under supervision, and that up to 3,000 passengers were expected each day from the start of May.

The reopened airports are located in places where adjoining provinces have lifted some of their Covid-19 movement restrictions.

The airports allowed to reopen, according to Pattaya Mail, are the airports at Nan, Phitsanulok, Phrae, Mae Sot, Mae Hong Son, Lampang, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Phanom, Buri Ram, Roi Et, Loei, Sakon Nakhon, UdonThani, Ubon Ratchathani, Chumphon, Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ranong, Krabi, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Don Mueang, Samui, Suvarnabhumi, Surat Thani, Hat Yai, Hua Hin and U-Tapao.

Ban on international flights till May 31

Thailand's aviation authority previously announced a ban on international flights.

The ban has been extended till May 31, according to an announcement on its website.
