7 of 13 new S'porean/PR Covid-19 cases found from screening of preschool & nursing home staff

Of the remaining six, four are a family linked to a dormitory and two are unlinked.

Of the 448 new Covid-19 cases preliminarily confirmed  on Thursday, May 21, a higher-than-usual 13 new infections are Singaporeans and Permanent Residents.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said that of these, seven were picked up from the Ministry of Health's active surveillance and screening of nursing home residents and pre-school staff, as part of priority screening for healthcare staffers as well as the reopening of preschools starting June 2.

2 cases unlinked, 1 family cluster linked to dormitory

As for the remaining six, MOH says four are part of a family cluster linked to a dormitory.

Meanwhile, the other two cases are unlinked, and contact tracing is ongoing for them both.

Fewer than 5 Singaporean/PR cases reported in past 10 days

The spike in the number of new Singaporean and PR infections follows more than 10 days of single-digit figures, lower than five, even, when not counting long-term and work pass holders:

  • May 10: 3
  • May 11: 2
  • May 12: 3
  • May 13: 2
  • May 14: 2
  • May 15: 1
  • May 16: 4
  • May 17: 4
  • May 18: 2
  • May 19: 1
  • May 20: 2

The last time we saw a double-digit figure of Singaporeans and PR infections reported was April 27, which saw 14 cases:
