More and more migrant workers are being moved from their dormitories into vacant HDB blocks, army camps, and sports halls.

Just like Singaporeans, the lives of these migrant workers have been upheaved because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

To welcome these migrant workers into our community, Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) Anthea Ong has launched a new campaign where you can write encouraging messages for them.

Called "Welcome In My Backyard" — a play on the term "Not In My Backyard" — the campaign aims to promote care for migrant workers and integrate them into our local communities.

To take part in "Welcome In My Backyard" (WIMBY), you can post your welcome note on wimby.sg or put it on your social media with the hashtags #WelcomeInMyBackyard and #WIMBY.

The campaign hopes to gather about 1,000 Welcome Notes and another 1,000 #wimby social media posts.

Here are some notes that have been posted:

In the next part of the campaign, which will be starting on May 1, the WIMBY team will conduct community engagement sessions to address residents' concerns and debunk misconceptions about migrant workers. address residents' concerns and debunk misconceptions about migrant workers.

These sessions will be conducted between residents, non-profit organisations, healthcare professionals and migrant workers.

“We become what we practise," said Ong.

"This campaign hopes to get Singaporeans to practise becoming a better version of ourselves by appreciating the essential role that migrant workers play in our lives and welcoming them into our common living spaces. And kick the old habit of NIMBY ('not in my backyard), hence WIMBY ('welcome in my backyard'). So, let's practise WIMBY!”

You can follow the WIMBY campaign on Facebook and Instagram.
