HDB cleaning supervisor urges S'pore residents not to do spring cleaning during CB period

The more you throw, the more work for the cleaners.

Singaporeans have been finding ways to pass the time these past few weeks.

Some popular activities include experimenting with food recipes, catching up on drama series, catching up with friends over Houseparty, or doing some crafts.

With so much time spent at home, some Singaporeans are also "Marie Kondo-ing" items that no longer spark joy.

If that idea crosses your mind, perhaps you should think twice about doing a CB Spring Cleaning.

Avoid overwhelming cleaners with more waste

One safe distancing ambassador (SDA), Nicholas Lee, recently met an HDB cleaning supervisor while taking a lunch break in the Utility Centre at a multi-storey car park during his duty.

The encounter with the cleaning supervisor was shared by one member from Youth Corps Singapore (YCS) Sustainability Cluster, Chin Jun Wuen,  in a Facebook post on April 23.

According to Chin, the cleaning supervisor told Lee that more waste has been generated during this period, especially the takeaway containers.

The cleaning supervisor also observed that more people are doing spring cleaning to pass the time too.

The daily amount of waste has tripled and that has put a toll on the cleaners as they will have more work to do.

The cleaners have to clear the rubbish chute more often on top of their daily operations, the cleaning supervisor shared with Lee.

Lee wrote that the supervisor urges residents to bring reusable containers when they buy takeaways and avoid doing spring cleaning to avoid overworking the cleaners.
