Local actress Sheila Sim is in her second trimester.

Visiting the fertility doctor

The 35-year-old announced the good news in an Apr. 27 Instagram post.

Sim, who has been married to 39-year-old banker Deon Woo for over two years now, said that their hearts are "swelled with love and joy to share that [their] family is growing".

She also thanked her husband and loved ones, and expressed her gratitude for such a "precious gift".

"First and foremost, big kiss and hug to my husband who's been so emotionally and physically supportive every step of the way. I am so blessed to be your wife and now, the mother of your child.

We've kept the pregnancy very low profile so far. So, very big thanks to those we knew, you've showered me with so much love and care throughout. I'll be a mess without you guys."

Lastly and most importantly, thank YOU for hearing my prayers. We are so grateful for this precious gift!"

According to CNA Lifestyle, Sim had known that she wanted to become a mum since getting married.

When she could not conceive, the couple went to consult fertility doctors.

It was then that she discovered a number of fibroids in her womb.

She underwent a surgery to remove the growths in August 2019.

Some months later in January 2020, Sim discovered that she was pregnant.

Keeping the secret

Since her announcement, Sim has been "overwhelmed" by the congratulatory messages, she said in a follow-up post.

The actress also elaborated on her first trimester, where she had to hide the secret from her friends.

"Now that the secret is out, I'd also like to apologise to friends whom I've avoided during my first trimester. Being a bad liar, I didn't know how to hide my pregnancy news. So I had to succumb to escaping! Haha! So Sorry! Meet up after CB without alcohol, thanks!"
