SPF investigating man behind infamous @sharonliew86 Twitter account for offensive posts

SPF is also investigating the man for two more offensive tweets.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) is investigating a 34-year-old man for promoting enmity between different racial groups.

In a news release, the SPF said that it received a report on April 18 relating to offensive content against Indian migrant workers.

It was posted by Twitter user @sharonliew86, who is known for insensitive posts like these:

SPF said that officers from Bedok Police Division conducted extensive investigations and established the identity of the man on April 23, with the aid of images from CCTV and police cameras.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in two other cases involving offensive tweets.

Police investigations are ongoing.

As of today, all tweets from @sharonliew86 have been removed from the Twitter account.

“At a time when we need the nation stand as one, acts that sow racial discord cannot be condoned,"  said Assistant Commissioner of Police Julius Lim, Commander of Bedok Police Division.

"Thanks to the relentless work by the investigators from Bedok Police Division, we were able to identify the person responsible for the offensive content on Twitter and bring him to justice."

It is an offence to promote enmity between different groups on grounds of race under Section 298A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

If convicted, one faces an imprisonment term of up to three years, or a fine, or both.
