National Development Minister Lawrence Wong announced that all beaches will be closed, starting today (Apr. 11).

This is a day after selected areas in Singapore's parks and nature reserves have been closed.

Safe distancing measures not being strictly adhered to

In his Facebook post, Wong noted that he continued to receive a lot of feedback on the circuit breaker measures, with some urging him to implement a full lockdown.

Wong also acknowledged that the current measures might feel "too restrictive" to others, and added that "this is a public health crisis, and we have to do what is right and necessary to protect Singaporeans".

He mentioned that while most places can stay open, they can only stay open if safe distancing measures are strictly adhered to.

However, he mentioned that currently safe distancing measures are not strictly adhered to and that "tougher measures are necessary".

"Stay home as much as possible": Wong

Wong added that the circuit breaker will only be effective if everyone reduces our contact with one another, not just for a few day but until the end of the month.

He reminded everyone to stay at home as possible and only go out if it is absolutely necessary, such as to buy food or to get groceries.

He asked everyone to wear a mask while going out and to go home once the task is complete.
