The Singapore government has consistently reiterated that Singaporeans should stay home during the circuit breaker period.

And now, ministers are taking to entertainment platforms to press home the message as well.

Tips for the elderly

Minister for Communications and Information S Iswaran stepped onto the getai stage on Apr. 13 alongside Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Communications and Information Sim Ann.

On the fourth episode of the LEX-S Watch Live Channel, both swapped banter with getai artistes and hosts Lee Peifen and Hwang Lei, with Iswaran adding in a few quips in Mandarin as well.

Lee said that the show was to help entertain their elderly viewers staying at home and to keep their spirits high.

The hosts and politicians happened to stand a polite and safe 1-metre apart from each other as well.

Iswaran then proceeded to share some tips on how the elderly could keep active and occupy themselves during this stay-home period.

This included cooking, exercise and watching entertainment programmes on television. For those who can use their phones, they can communicate with their family, grandchildren and friends as well.

E-Mahjong, Iswaran chuckled, was an option too.

Sim added that the internet was a wealth of knowledge and resources the elderly could turn to as well.

E-getai is something different

When asked whether both were working from home, the politicians assured the hosts and the audiences that they were.

Iswaran even joked that the show was "essential services", after Lee thanked him for taking the time to appear despite his busy schedule.

The minister then proceeded to sportingly grace the audience with a Mandarin rendition of Teresa Teng's "The moon represents my heart".

He then dedicated the song to all of Singapore's elderlies, and urged them to "stay home, stay healthy", and wished them "身体健康 (a healthy body)".

Iswaran also thanked the show's organisers for putting together an e-getai.

"I know its very different, but it's something we are doing in these very different times".

You can watch the whole episode here. Iswaran's and Sim's portion starts at around 56 minutes in.
