Last Wednesday, the Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing stated that Singapore and New Zealand have pledged to ensure that trade lines for essential items will be kept open during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Essential items such as medical supplies, hospital equipment, and food such as eggs, fish, meat, and vegetables, were expected to arrive in a week's time.
A week later, here they are.
First shipment of essential supplies has arrived from New Zealand
A news release by the Ministry of Trade and Industry stated that Chan and New Zealand High Commissioner Jo Tyndall received the first shipment of essential supplies from New Zealand at Changi Airport on April 22, 2020.
About 20 tonnes of meat, including beef and lamb were sent from New Zealand to Singapore on an Air New Zealand flight.
This is the first flight following the launch of the Declaration on Trade in Essential Goods for Combating the Covid-19 Pandemic on April 15.
Both countries have agreed to work closely together to expedite and facilitate the flow of essential supplies through air and sea ports.
