Since the circuit breaker period started, some have been spotted having their meals at hawker centres.

Some have also called out the hawkers themselves for eating in front of their stalls during this period.

Hawkers can eat in front of stall

However, in response to Mothership's queries, a spokesperson from the National Environment Agency (NEA) said that stallholders are allowed to consume meals at the table immediately in front of their stalls.

There are some things to take note, though.

Hawkers can only dine alone and not share tables or congregate with other hawkers.

They should also keep a safe distance of at least one metre from any other person.

Patrons can sit while waiting

Patrons waiting for their takeaway orders will also not be stopped from sitting down.

However, they can only sit on seats that have not been demarcated as not to be occupied and should leave as soon as their orders are fulfilled.

"When their take-aways are ready, patrons should collect them promptly and leave the hawker centre."

Vulnerable group encouraged to seek help

Patrons who are in vulnerable groups, including the elderly, are encouraged to seek assistance from other members in the same household or neighbours if they need to buy food from the hawker centre or market.

If they must visit, they should avoid going during the peak hours to avoid the crowd and to minimise time spent staying outside of their homes.

"The cooperation of all patrons, as well as stallholders, is required so that further stricter measures will not be necessary beyond the current circuit breaker to halt the transmission of Covid-19 in Singapore."
