Two Mongolian women were allegedly raped by a 30-year-old police inspector in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

Arrested for not complying with Malaysia's MCO

According to Malay Mail, the women were stopped at a roadblock on Friday (Apr. 10) night during a routine check under the country's movement control order (MCO).

The suspect then asked for their travel documents.

After failing to show their documents, the women were arrested, reported Malaysiakini.

However, instead of bringing them to the police station, the suspect reportedly took them to a hotel for more than 24 hours against their will.

He also allegedly raped them there.

Rescued after police received tip-off

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said that the Petaling Jaya district police received a tip-off on the situation.

At about 9:30pm on Saturday (Apr. 11), they carried out two raids, including one at the hotel where the crime allegedly occurred.

The women were rescued and taken to the hospital for a medical check-up.

Based on initial investigations, ACP Nik stated that the women were working in vice and did not have valid documents.

But the police will apply for an interim protection order for them as they are the victims in this case.

"Based on our investigations both women were working in vice, but that does not make them any less the victims here."

The suspect was later arrested at a separate location, based on police intelligence and surveillance.

Elements of rape found

A police forensic team was sent to the hotel to gather evidence.

Elements of rape were found at the crime scene, according to Malay Mail.

The police may also bring up more charges against the suspect as the case may possibly be investigated for kidnap and extortion too.

The suspect will be remanded for five days starting Apr. 12.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 376 of Malaysia's Penal Code.

ACP Nik said via The Star:

"I am deeply saddened and disappointed over this case. The suspect was acting in his own capacity and we will ensure stern action is taken in accordance to the law."
