Up north, Malaysians have been staying at home for more than two weeks, with the lockdown extended to April 14.

During this period, many have sought ways to cheer each other on and keep themselves occupied at home.

Here's one example:

Here's another.

How to grow bean sprouts at home

One Malaysian woman, Mee Ho Chew, shared a step-by-step guide on how to grow bean sprouts at home with a simple set up.

As Singapore starts the circuit breaker period, this can be a good edutainment for parents to engage their children at home.

Here are the materials she used:

  • Green beans
  • An empty plastic bottle
  • A piece of gauze

Instructions

First, soak the green beans for six hours.

After that, pour out the water and secure a gauze over the opening of the bottle.

Avoid exposing the bottle to sunlight by covering the bottle up.

At night, water the green beans again by pouring water into the bottle. Pour the excess water out afterwards.

Subsequently, water the beans three times a day with cold water, for all days.

After leaving the bottle of green beans for one day, you will see some progress as the outer shell of the beans crack and the beans start to sprout.

Continue to water the green beans for the next two days, and the bean sprouts will be ready for harvest by the fifth day.

Chew harvested 600g of bean sprouts with one-and-a-half spoonful of green beans at the end of five days.

Documenting the process

She documented the process and shared it on her Facebook on April 1.

The post has since garnered over 10,000 shares.

Chew has been very helpful, patiently answering the questions in the comments section of her post.
