Some might be finding it hard to adapt to the "new normal" as a result of Circuit Breaker measures.

One grandma here though, has clearly discovered a new hobby with which to pass the time with while at home.

New hobby

One Chi Ling Leck shared on Facebook what her 90-year-old grandmother had been up to during this period.

While most people might be occupying themselves with Netflix, games, cooking or other activities, the elderly lady has instead picked up a simpler pastime — colouring.

Here she is, deeply engrossed in her work.

Leck said that the illustrations in the newspaper were initially not easy to understand for the senior woman, as they contained concepts more specific to Circuit Breaker that might be less familiar to older generations, such as food delivery.

"There were so many things that she couldn’t understand, like food delivery, or doing yoga at home, and even the concept of animals wearing masks was something she took some time to understand! But she didn’t give up."

However, her grandma would still ask her family members what the drawings were, so that she could pick the right colours for the illustration.

Leck even observed that her grandma's colouring skills had improved after colouring daily for a week. This was also so she could participate in The Straits Times and Prudential's colouring challenge.

The grandma would even enter her family members' rooms at night to proudly show off her masterpieces, and explain why she chose certain colours for certain objects.

It's evident that the grandma has even taken some creative liberties to add more patterns to to the drawings.

Leck added that despite her grandma's poor eyesight and fine motor skills, "she puts in her best effort to make these illustrations come alive".

She ended off her post by saying how grateful she was for this colouring challenge which kept her grandma occupied during these trying times.

Meanwhile, Leck shared that her grandma's dedication to learning new things even at her old age inspired her.

"Through this, she really did inspire me: to never stop learning. If granny can work so hard to learn new concepts and be patient when we explain to her with our limited Teochew, we should work hard too!!"
