On April 21, it was announced that standalone beverage outlets such as bubble tea stores are now considered non-essential, and have to be closed from April 21, 11:59pm.
The announcement has caused a lot of Singaporeans to try to get one last sip of bubble tea in various ways, including ordering it on food delivery apps.
One last bubble tea
Among them was Kat Senin, who attempted to order her bubble tea fix through several food delivery apps.
Her orders from Foodpanda and Deliveroo were cancelled, but fortunately, she managed to get it through GrabFood.
As everyone else was also trying to get their last cup of bubble tea for a while, she received an apologetic message from the food delivery rider who said that her order will take a while longer.
Waited more than one hour
At this point, he had already been waiting for the drinks for close to an hour.
To lift his mood, Kat wrote back an encouraging message and even offered a tip:
Cancelled order
Unfortunately, the beverage outlet had informed him that they had to cancel Kat's order as there were more than 20 orders ahead of hers.
Kat said: "He (food delivery rider) was damn sad and mine was his last order too."
Not wanting his effort to go to waste, Kat asked for his mobile number so she could transfer him a small tip since he won't be earning any money from her order despite waiting for more than an hour.
He obliged, but not without telling her that this was just "part and parcel" of his duty as a rider.
In her post, Kat reminded Singaporeans that it doesn't hurt to be nice to food delivery riders, especially during the circuit breaker period.
"Most of the time, order cancellations/lateness is NOT their fault!
A small tip and words of encouragement go (sic) a long way.
Thank you to our riders for enduring the elements during this CB to keep us all fed."
