Flash floods in a few areas in S'pore as torrential downpour pounds island

The last day of April 2020 was marked by flash floods in some parts of Singapore.

The central and eastern parts of the island were pounded with rain, with lightning activity prevalent.

PUB issued flash floods warnings between 4pm and 6pm, as Jalan Teliti, Tampines Road (Near Hougang Ave 1) and Upper Paya Lebar Road were temporarily flooded:



Some of the central areas received as much as 103mm of rain over a day.

A video uploaded on Facebook showed a flooded car park in Joo Seng located in the Toa Payoh area.

A taxi, with its wheels partially submerged, could be seen trying to navigate in muddy waters.

May 2020 weather forecast

The weather forecast for Singapore for the first two weeks of May 2020 will be like how it always was: Warm and wet.

There will be short-duration thundery showers with frequent lightning expected between the late morning and afternoon.

The showers could extend into the evening on one or two of these days.

Overall, the rainfall for Singapore in the first fortnight of May 2020 is forecast to be above-normal over most parts of the island.
