Two part-time staff working at FairPrice were recently fired for behaving unprofessionally during their duties.

Searched patrons for a "chop" before entry

A video of the incident was posted to Facebook page Tiagong, and appears to have originally been posted on Instagram stories.

It shows a young man in casual clothes standing at the entrance of the FairPrice outlet, holding out his phone with the flashlight on.

The man appears to be involved in temperature screening of patrons.

He can be heard asking a patron waiting to enter the supermarket for a "chop" on his arm, and proceeds to pretend searching the man's body for the "chop" before bursting out into loud laughter.

The caption states "chop for NTUC entry HAHAHAHAHA CB".

Another elderly patron was also stopped by the man, and similarly, the latter shines his phone's flashlight on the patron's arm before allowing him entry.

His mask was also dangling off one ear.

Another short clip shows the man asking a female patron to lift her hands in the air.

Throughout the entire video, a woman behind the camera can be heard sniggering.

Both staff relieved of their duties

In response to Mothership's queries, FairPrice stated that they are aware of the incident, which occurred on Apr. 29 at the Orchard Grand Court outlet.

The video displayed "the unprofessional conduct of a person while performing temperature taking duties".

FairPrice said they take a "serious view" of this matter, and as a result, have relieved the part-time staff in the video, along with the other staff filming the incident, of their duties.

A police report has also been filed, as the matter "concerns public safety", and has caused "considerable public alarm and concern".

In their statement, FairPrice assured all patrons that their safety is a priority at their stores, and they will not hesitate to take firm action against unprofessional conduct or any breach of our strict safety protocols.
