Circuit Breaker measures dictate that Singapore residents should not be leaving their houses unless for essential purposes.

However, key sectors and services, such as F&B establishments, food delivery and transport services, remain operational during the period, which runs from Apr. 7 to May 4.

On Apr. 12, the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that essential workers can eat at void decks, park benches, or in their vehicles, provided that they observe safe distancing and not loiter after their meals.

But not all are familiar with the exception, it seems.

Private-hire car driver gets dirty looks

On Apr. 15, one Gordon Tay, who claims to be a private hire driver, shared his encounter with several residents while having his lunch at a void deck.

He posted about his experience to the infamous Facebook group SG Covidiots.

According to Tay, he had stopped at a void deck in Bukit Batok to eat.

However, as he was sitting down, a middle-aged man shouted at him that the police was coming.

Tay then spotted a patrol car driving towards him, but sat down and proceeded to have his meal.

When the car stopped in front of him, Tay flashed the relevant identification to indicate that he was an essential worker, and the officer reportedly gave him a thumbs up and moved on.

By then, Tay said, a few passers-by were already taking photos of him, including the man who warned him of the patrol car.

Tay wrote that they also took photos of him as he was eating.

The driver said that he doesn't hold a grudge, as these residents probably did not realise that essential workers are allowed to eat at void decks.

He wrote: "Keep moving bro and sis, do what is right and we shall see rainbow after the storm."
