Circuit breaker measures are implemented to ensure that the most vulnerable of society are protected from an incredibly infectious virus.

While it is a whole-country effort, there is no doubt Covid-19 is more dangerous for certain demographics.

One of those demographics being older Singaporeans.

However, some elderly Singaporeans are still hanging out outside after the new measures kicked in.

Some appeared to be engaging in usual daily activities such as tai chi, while Mothership spotted a few senior citizens still using the exercise equipment around their areas, despite it being taped up.

Facebook posts have shown what appears to be senior citizens hanging out and playing chess, or just talking.

Loneliness

A very real issue is that senior citizens, especially those who live alone, might become increasingly isolated and lonely as the Covid-19 outbreak continues.

The Straits Times reported that seniors shared that boredom and loneliness were making it a struggle to stay at home.

A 75-year old lady told ST that she used to spend one to two hours a day mingling with her peers at Tanglin Halt Food Centre after shopping at a nearby supermarket.

In a press conference on April 9, 2020, National Development Minister Lawrence Wong has indicated that restrictions could get even tighter.

Stadiums have been closed off after people kept exercising in groups in the stadium.
