Man, 28, arrested for driving lorry against traffic on TPE

The Singapore police have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly driving against traffic.

The driver's arrest was for his suspected involvement in a case of dangerous driving, according to a police release on Apr. 12.

On Apr. 9, at about 11:40pm, the Traffic Police received several calls about a lorry driver driving against the flow of traffic along Tampines Expressway (TPE).

On Apr. 10, Facebook page Singapore Reckless Drivers posted a video of a lorry defying traffic flow.

The post's caption said the incident happened on Apr. 9 at around 11:40pm, along the TPE Punggol Exit towards Seletar Expressway (SLE).

Through investigations and with the aid of images from CCTV footage, Traffic Police officers established the identity of the driver and arrested him on Apr. 11.

His driving licence was immediately suspended.

No injuries were reported, and investigations are ongoing.

Under the Road Traffic Act, the driver may be fined up to S$5,000 or imprisoned for up to 12 months, or both, for a first time conviction.

Subsequent conviction will carry a fine of up to S$10,000 or an imprisonment term of up to two years, or both.

The offender's driving licence may also be disqualified.
