Din Tai Fung remains a popular dining option, even, or especially, during a pandemic.

Safe distancing concerns

On Apr. 15, the Taiwanese restaurant thanked customers in a Facebook post for the "incredible support" they've received over the past few days as takeaway sales have surged.

The circuit breaker period had started more than a week ago, on Apr. 7.

Din Tai Fung acknowledged concerns of safe distancing at their storefronts, as a result of long queues to buy their food.

The restaurant responded by allowing daily takeaway deals to be purchased via "call and collect" option.

Staggered collection times have also been implemented to help reduce the size of the waiting crowd.

Here are some photos and videos of the Tampines outlet, taken by a Mothership reader slightly before 12pm on Wednesday, Apr. 15:

While customers in the queue observed a 1-metre distance, a number of other patrons and delivery riders were also milling about the area, likely waiting for their orders.

Disappointed customers

Another issue that surfaced over the promotions was the lack of availability.

Here are some examples of the promotions:

Unfortunately, a number of customers have experienced problems with ordering the promotional dishes on GrabFood and in store.

Din Tai Fung explained the reason for the lapses in the same Facebook post, and apologised to the disappointed customers.

"Our team has been working tirelessly to fulfil your orders, while practicing adherence to safe distancing guidelines and an adjusted manpower strength. Inadvertently, some of you have been disappointed along the way. We are sorry for this."

They added that the feedback has been "crucial" in identifying operational gaps, which they are working on.
