The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced a record 447 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore on Wednesday (Apr. 15).
This is the highest single-day increase in the number of reported cases thus far, and brings the total number of confirmed Covid-19 infections in Singapore to 3,699.
Of these 447 new cases, 38 are locally transmitted.
404 of the new cases announced involve Work Permit holders residing in dormitories.
According to MOH, the number of cases among Work Permit holders has been increasing significantly.
An average of 48 cases were reported each day the week before, but this has increased to an average of 260 cases per day in the past week.
Breakdown of new clusters
Among these, MOH announced four new clusters its contact tracers found on Wednesday.
Three of these are based at foreign worker dormitories, while the fourth is connected to a shophouse on Balestier Road.
1) 234A Balestier Road
Seven of the earlier confirmed cases have now been linked to a new cluster at 234A Balestier Road.
- Case 2125 is a 36-year-old male Bangladeshi national and Long Term Pass holder. He tested positive on Apr. 10 and was warded at the NCID.
- Case 2610 is a 39-year-old male Bangladeshi national and Singapore Work Pass holder. He tested positive on Apr. 13 and was warded at the NCID.
- Case 2636 is a 28-year-old male Bangladeshi national and Singapore Work Pass holder. He tested positive on Apr. 3 and was warded at the NCID. He is a contact of Cases 2525, 2613, 2610 and 2638.
- Case 2638 is a 46-year-old male Indian national and Singapore Work Pass holder. He tested positive on Apr. 13 and was warded at the NCID. He is a contact of cases 2525, 2613, 2610 and 2636.
- Case 2641 is a 37-year-old male Bangladeshi national and Singapore Work Pass holder. He tested positive on Apr. 13 and was warded at the NCID. He was a contact of Case 2610.
- Case 3142 is a 26-year-old male Thai national and Work Permit holder. He tested positive on Apr. 13 and was warded at the NCID.
2) 10 Kian Teck Crescent dormitory
Four of the earlier confirmed cases have now been linked to a new cluster at 10 Kian Teck Crescent dormitory.
- Case 1125 is a 42-year-old male Bangladeshi national and Singapore Work Pass holder. He tested positive on Apr. 3 and was warded in the NCID.
- Case 1540 is a 30-year-old male Bangladeshi national and Singapore Work Pass holder. He tested positive on Apr. 7 and was warded at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
- Case 1959 is a 37-year-old male Bangladeshi national and Long Term Pass holder. He tested positive on Apr. 9 and was warded at the NCID
- Case 2929 is a 29-year-old male Bangladeshi national and Work Permit holder. He tested positive on Apr. 13 and was warded at the NCID.
3) Kian Teck dormitory
One of the confirmed cases is linked to three previous cases, forming a new cluster at Kian Teck Dormitory, located at 26 Kian Teck Avenue.
- Case 2955 is a 26-year-old male Indian national and Work Permit holder. He tested positive on Apr. 13 and was warded at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.
- Case 2956 is a 27-year-old male Indian national and Work Permit holder. He tested positive on Apr. 13 and was warded at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.
- Case 3370 is a 35-year-old male Indian national and Work Permit holder. He tested positive on Apr. 14 and is currently warded at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.
4) Mandai Lodge
One of the latest confirmed cases is linked to six previous ones, forming a new cluster of seven at Mandai Lodge (460 Mandai Road).
- Case 2611 is a 28-year-old male Indian national and Singapore Work Pass holder. He tested positive on Apr. 13 and was warded at the NCID.
- Case 2898 is a 26-year-old male Indian national and Singapore Work Pass holder. He tested positive on Apr. 13.
- Case 2900 is a 37-year-old male Indian national and Singapore Work Pass holder. He tested positive on Apr. 13.
- Case 2930 is a 21-year-old male Bangaldeshi national and Work Permit holder. He tested positive on Apr. 13 and was warded at the NCID.
- Case 2932 is a 40-year-old male Indian national and Work Permit holder. He tested positive on Apr. 13 and was warded at the NCID.
- Case 2933 is a 48-year-old male Indian national and Work Permit holder. He tested positive on Apr. 13 and was warded at the NCID.
- Case 3328 is a 28-year-old male Indian national and Work Permit holder. He tested positive on Apr. 14 and is currently at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
