Covid-19 update: 623 new cases, 69% from existing clusters

On April 17, the Ministry of Health reported 623 new cases of Covid-19 infection in Singapore.

These new cases consist of:

  • 1 imported case.
  • 27 cases in the community (22 Singaporeans/ PermanentResidents, four work passes, one visitor).
  • 37 Work Permit holders (residing outside of dormitories).
  • 558 Work Permit holders (residing in dormitories).

This brings the total number of cases to 5,050.

69 per cent linked to known clusters

Of the new cases, 69 per cent are linked to known clusters.

MOH announced four new clusters today:

  • Tuas South Dormitory
  • Avery Lodge Dormitory
  • Jurong Penjuru Dormitory
  • 4 Sungei Kadut Street 2

25 more cases have been discharged from hospitals today, bringing the total discharged cases to 708.

2,218 cases who are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Of the 2,113 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, 22 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

1 death on April 17

11 have passed away from complications due to Covid-19 infection.

Case 3145, a 95-year-old male Singapore Citizen, has passed away from complications due to Covid-19 infection on April 17.

He was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on 13 April. Raffles Hospital has reached out to his family and is extending assistance to them.
