The Singapore Expo has been designated as the second community isolation facility to house Covid-19 patients who have recovered but might still be infectious or have milder symptoms.
Health Minister Gan Kim Yong announced this measure on April 5 so that hospitals can be freed up to care for patients who need more significant medical attention.
Ho Ching, CEO of Temasek Holdings, has shared a photo on April 6, barely a day after the announcement, showing the Singapore Expo site being transformed into a holding area replete with partitions.
She wrote in her post:
A huge thank you to all various ppl working flat out, including into the wee hours of the morning.
Fast but systematic, passionate but steady.
Real professionals, no fuss, no fussiness.
SGunited, not just Singaporeans only, but everyone on this little red dot, and beyond too.
Whether in caring for patients, in searching for a treatment candidate, in organising air flown eggs, in looking for solutions for their grandma, in caring for their neighbours, we all share a heart for people and a better world.
Take care, all, and keep safe.
Gan did not say how many patients the Expo in Changi could potentially hold.
There was also no indication how early the venue has been prepped for use as a facility.
But from the looks of the photo, the air-conditioned open space venue normally used for trade fairs and conventions looks set to hold hundreds of people at a time.
The first such site is D'Resort NTUC in Pasir Ris, which can accommodate up to 500 people.
