In a joint initiative, online grocery retailer RedMart and taxi company ComfortDelGro are working together to utilise some of ComfortDelGro's 10,000-strong fleet of taxis as RedMart grocery delivery vehicles.

During the circuit breaker period, more grocery retailers are seeing an increasing demand for home delivery, including RedMart.

The collaboration between these two companies aims to help expand the existing delivery fleet.

More than 1,000 drivers interested

Over 1,000 cab drivers have indicated their interest to take part in delivery services during this period.

According to a joint statement, the cab drivers will start on the delivery jobs by end-April.

This is after they have undergone training provided by RedMart.

During this trial pilot, the cab drivers will be picking up orders from RedMart's warehouse at Alexandra Terrace and deliver them to locations within the town areas.

They will also be trained to perform contactless deliveries and deliver orders directly to a customer's doorstep.

Growing need for delivery

On Mar. 29, it was announced that taxi and private-hire car drivers can now make grocery and food deliveries to fulfil a growing need in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Apart from RedMart, McDonald's has also gotten ComfortDelGro drivers to fulfil food deliveries for them until end-June.
