Update, April 13, 11:11pm: This article has been updated with the police statement and to reflect the exact reason for the man's arrest.

A 48-year-old man was arrested by three police officers in Guardian pharmacy in Toa Payoh.

The video made the rounds online on April 13, on the day of the incident.

According to the people heard talking in the video, the man was arrested as he was not compliant with instructions.

Online speculation is that the man had entered the store without a mask during this Covid-19 circuit breaker period in Singapore.

However, the police has confirmed they received a call for assistance at Block 190 Lorong 6 Toa Payoh at 2.20pm.

The man was arrested for disorderly behaviour and shop theft.

Police investigations are ongoing.

What the video showed

The one-minute clip showed the man pinned onto the ground by three male police officers.

Also present was a fourth female police officer.

The man on the ground was then cuffed.

As he was held down, he could be heard saying, "Eh relax lah."

After the man was brought up to his feet, one of the male officers put the man's hat back onto his head.

However, the arrested man retaliated by kicking a shelf in the store, causing the contents on the shelf to spill onto the floor as the crowd audibly gasped.

In another case, the police said a 55-year-old man is under investigation after he allegedly slapped a female staff at Jervois Road petrol kiosk.

The staff had asked the man to wear a mask but he refused.
