All patients infected with Covid-19 have been discharged from hospitals in the Chinese city of Wuhan, China's National Health Commission said on Sunday afternoon, April 26, Xinhua reported.

The update comes as the last 12 patients have been discharged on Sunday.

"I miss my family so much!"

The last Covid-19 patient to be discharged was a 77-year-old man surnamed Ding, Wuhan Wanbao reported.

He told Changjiang Daily that he misses his family terribly.

Another man to be discharged said: "The air outside is so fresh, and the weather is really good today!"

Lockdown lifted on April 8

Once the epicentre of the pandemic, Wuhan reported a total of 50,333 Covid-19 patients so far, with the city treating as many as 38,000 patients at its peak.

It went under lockdown on Jan. 23, with people being banned from entering or leaving the city.

Authorities then started lifting lockdown measures in stages from the end of March until April 8, when the lockdown was officially lifted.

According to Wuhan Wanbao, the number of severe Covid-19 cases in Wuhan dropped to zero on April 23, while all severe cases were discharged from hospitals on April 24.

Clearing of all severe cases is a victory for Wuhan

China's health minister Ma Xiaowei told CCTV on Saturday, April 25, that the clearing of all severe Covid-19 cases indicates a definitive victory for Wuhan's battle with the pandemic.

He added that even though all Covid-19 patients have been discharged, arrangements have been made for those with other conditions to continue receiving specialised treatment at the hospitals in the city.

Still, he said the country must not let their guard down, especially when it comes to imported cases.

However, 10 patients who are declared to be free from Covid-19 are still in intensive care, South China Morning Post reported.

They are currently treated at Tongji Hospital for complications brought about by Covid-19, such as kidney problems.
