A Burger King (BK) staff involved in a quarrel with a GrabFood delivery rider on Apr. 22 has since been fined for flouting Circuit Breaker measures.
The incident occurred at Ang Mo Kio Hub on Apr. 22, and allegedly broke out over canceled food orders.
Issued composition fine
A video, believed to be filmed by a GrabFood rider, has been circulating on social media as testament to the mounting pressure those working essential services face from the surge in demand during this period.
On Apr. 23, the police told Mothership that they were alerted to a case of voluntarily causing hurt at 53 Ang Mo Kio Ave 3, at around 1:12pm the day before.
Both parties involved, the 24-year-old BK staff and the GrabFood rider, have been advised on their legal recourse.
However, the BK staff was issued a composition fine of S$300 for breaking stringent Circuit Breaker measures.
Mothership understands that this was due to the man taking off his mask during the argument.
In the video, the BK staff whipped his mask off and said "See my face! I not scared of viral!" in response to the GrabFood rider filming the incident.
As of Apr. 13, all food handlers are required to don masks or other forms of physical barriers like face shields.
This includes personnel at hawker centre stalls, coffee shops, restaurants, supermarkets and caterers, and is aimed at protecting the workers against possible transmission from others, and simultaneously preventing transmission to others.
Mothership has contacted Burger King for more information and will update the story with their response.
What happened?
The commotion occurred on Wednesday allegedly over canceled orders.
In the video, the GrabFood rider behind the camera can be heard yelling "Your system down not my problem!"
He then blamed the attitude of the BK staff and asked why the fast food outlet is still taking orders when the "system is down".
He could also be heard saying he will "make" the BK staff "viral", and even egged the BK staff on, prompting the staff to nearly snatch his phone away to stop him from filming.
