The eldest daughter of the 46-year-old Indian national, Alagu Periyakarrupa, who passed away recently, penned a heartwarming letter about her father to the volunteers of local non-profit, ItsRainingRaincoats.

Her father, Alagu, was found motionless at a stairwell at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) on Apr. 23, after being admitted as a Covid-19 patient.

He had worked in Singapore since 2009 and was the sole breadwinner of his family.

Education of eldest daughter to be taken care of for next 5 years

According to the Facebook post by the local non-profit, the wife of Alagu was contemplating becoming a coolie back in the Andaman Islands to support her elderly parents and her three daughters.

As a coolie, she would have to carry other people's luggage at bus stops or train stations for small change.

However, thanks to the "outpouring of sympathy" from the public, the wife will no longer need to do that.

The eldest daughter's education will also be taken care of for the next five years, until she can get a job.

A volunteer from ItsRainingRaincoats is also helping the eldest daughter, Roopa, improve her English.

Roopa will be writing a letter to the volunteers every week as a way to improve her grasp of the language.

In the post, the non-profit highlighted that Alagu's dream was to educate his three daughters and that the volunteers will take care of this.

Father's favourite fruit was bananas

According to the daughter's letter to the volunteers of ItsRainingRaincoats, Roopa is currently in the 12th standard in her school in South Andaman.

She wrote that she misses and loves her father and revealed that the fruit that he likes the most is bananas.
