A 46-year-old Indian national was found dead on Thursday (April 23) morning at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH).

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has provided more information about the Indian national in its April 23 Covid-19 update.

Case 8190

The deceased was case 8190.

He was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on April 19, and had been warded at KTPH.

He was in the hospital for 4 days before he was found lying motionless at a staircase landing in KTPH.

The police have classified this as a case of unnatural death.

No complaints against employer

In a media statement, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said the deceased was a migrant worker who had worked in Singapore since September 2009.

He was a construction worker and had stayed with the same employer since his arrival in Singapore more than 10 years ago.

Background checks did not reveal any complaints against the employer, said MOM.

The worker's accommodation, a factory-converted dormitory operated by his employer, was found to be in acceptable condition.

"At the time, it housed nine workers (including the deceased), less than the approved capacity for factory-converted dormitories," said the ministry.

Jo Teo: Those who need help should come forward

Earlier today, Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam and Minister for Manpower Josephine Teo met with the workers at the dormitory.

Teo said the workers reported being well taken of by their employers.

They have been provided with meals and have been paid their salaries.

Teo said that she assured the workers that they should not hesitate to seek medical attention if they're unwell:

"We know that this is a stressful time for them and we want to encourage anyone who needs help to come forward so that we can attend to their feedback and also look after them."

The ministry is working with the Hindu Endowments Board to undertake the necessary funeral arrangements for the deceased worker.

It is also working with the Migrant Workers’ Centre to provide support to the family of the deceased.
