Zulkifli bin Packeer Bawa, a hawker at Tekka Centre, has passed away on Mar. 11, 2020.

Man behind prata & sambal combination

He ran Prata Saga Sambal Berlada, one of the better-known hawker stalls at Tekka Centre, with his wife.

Fondly known as Mr Zul, the stall is popular for their combination of fluffy and crispy prata with sambal made from fresh red chillies and a hint of belachan (fermented shrimp paste).

This is what Karni Tomer, a fan of the stall, said about Zulkifli:

"Every time I entered the market, I was amazed by his big smile that really made my day."

After Tomer conveyed her condolences through Facebook, more fans of Prata Saga Sambal Berlada also chimed in with similar sentiments:

Over 40 years of experience

Zulkifli had over 40 years of flipping pratas and murtabaks at Tekka Centre.

Once, he was even asked to teach how to flip pratas at the Culinary Institute of America.

Rest in peace.
