The Covid-19 outbreak appears to be accelerating in South Korea.
On Monday (Mar. 2), 476 more cases were reported in the republic, bringing the total number of infections to 4,212, according to Yonhap News Agency.
The death toll in South Korea sits at 22.
Most cases in Daegu
Of the 476 new cases, 377 came from Daegu, while 68 came from the neighbouring Northern Gyeongsang province.
Daegu is where the biggest cluster of Covid-19 originated in South Korea, and has ties to the Shincheonji Church of Jesus where a female worshipper has been dubbed a “super-spreader”.
The Shincheonji church founder was reported to have tested negative for Covid-19 on Mar. 2, according to the religious sect.
Other major cities have also reported new cases, including Seoul, with four new cases of the Covid-19 virus.
The virus alert was raised to "red" in the republic on Feb. 23.
According to health experts in the country, the number of confirmed cases are expected to jump in the coming days as health authorities have begun testing members of the religious sect, which number over 210,000.
