A 36-year-old Singaporean man in Bangkok has been diagnosed with Covid-19, Straits Times reported.

The Singaporean, known only as Jay, owns a restaurant called Ohana Poke in Lumphini, Bangkok.

On March 10, he took to Facebook to share that he has been diagnosed with Covid-19.

"I owe it to you to provide an honest and open update," he wrote.

His lengthy Facebook post also described how he had not been out of the country for the past month, and assured customers on the measures his restaurant has taken in light of the coronavirus situation.

Did not go to the shop since March 6

Jay said that he tested positive on March 10 at Bangkok Christian Hospital, and immediately called his manager to close Ohana Poke.

He said he did not go to his shop after March 6, and was only there for two hours.

He said he did not display symptoms until Sunday morning, when he developed a body ache and felt chilly, but stayed home on that day.

On Monday, March 9, he went straight to the hospital after developing a fever.

Upon testing positive, Jay shared that all of his staff have been put on 14 days of self-quarantine. None of them have reported any symptoms so far.

He also reassured his customers that they sanitised their shop regularly, and the shop will be closed until further notice for disinfection.

Addressing rumours of travel

In his Facebook post, he also addressed rumours that he has travelled to Korea recently.

He attached a photo of his passport and boarding pass to prove that he entered Bangkok on Feb. 2, 2020.

"If 14-days is the maximum incubation/infection period, I mostly likely caught it locally in Bangkok," he said.

Mothership has reached out to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their comment.

As of March 11, he posted a subsequent update saying that contact tracing is underway.

"It is my duty to my customers, suppliers and staff to present you with the truth and to address your concerns as much as I possibly can," he said.
