Facebook has shut down its offices in both Singapore and London after an employee here was diagnosed with the Covid-19 coronavirus, both the Financial Times (FT) and The Independent reported.

A spokesperson from Facebook said the Singapore-based employee had visited the company's London offices from Feb. 24 to 26 and spent one day in the Marina One office here over the past two weeks.

These offices will be closed until Monday, Mar. 9, for "deep cleaning".

In addition, the London employees will work from home until Mar. 9, while employees in Singapore have been advised to work from home until Mar. 13, FT further reported.

The Independent highlighted that the London offices employ more than 3,000 people and that the tech company was also contacting other workers and employees who had visited these offices in recent days.

The firm has also asked people who have been in direct contact with the infected employee to self-isolate and be vigilant in watching for symptoms.

British media Sky News reported that Singapore and London are the latest of Facebook's offices to be affected by Covid-19.

Earlier, on Mar. 5, the company closed its office in Seattle, U.S., after a contractor who was based there had been diagnosed with Covid-19.

It also "strongly recommended" its employees based in the San Francisco Bay Area to work from home, starting from Mar. 6, CNA reported.

In addition, the company has also closed its office in Shanghai, as well as encouraged its employees in Italy and South Korea to also work from home.
