Covid-19 has now affected more than 100 countries and territories.

As of March 8, Singapore reported a total of 150 confirmed cases.

National carrier Singapore Airlines (SIA) is stepping up its precautionary measures in light of the spread of Covid-19.

One SIA air steward was tested positive on March 6.

He had been to South Africa from Feb. 14 to 17 and had also travelled to France from Feb. 22 to 24.

All SIA cabin crew to wear face masks on plane

In response to Mothership's query on March 8, a SIA spokesperson confirmed that the airline has temporarily allowed all cabin crew to wear face masks while operating flights.

This is the latest precautionary measure that SIA has taken to minimise the risks for its customers and staff, the spokesperson added.

Iran, northern Italy, and South Korea have seen spikes in Covid-19 cases over the past two weeks.

The three countries have reported over 5,000 confirmed cases thus far.

Adding on to that, the number of cases in Europe is also on the rise with Germany and France hitting almost 1,000 cases.

This has also prompted SIA to cancel all flights to Milan, Italy, until the end of May 2020.
