A Singaporean man recently came under fire for flouting a Stay Home Notice (SHN).

The man not only went out for bak kut teh the day he touched down after returning from Myanmar, he also posted that he was “feeling fantastic” about it on Facebook.

Speaking in parliament on Wednesday, March 25, Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam touched on the topic, noting in particular that he had asked for that specific case to be investigated.

He also talked about how Singaporeans might feel frustrated when those who return from overseas do not adhere to their SHN.

Specifically, he talked about messages floating around of recent returnees, particularly from the United Kingdom, that are going out to eat local food, and generally flout their SHN.

The minister said also that the police are trying to verify some of the messages of SHN being flouted and urged anyone with information of such behaviour to bring it up to the police.

"You have information about such behaviour. Please give it to the police. We will follow up, and we cannot allow such behaviour."

If the cases are verified to be true, the cases will be charged in court, he said.
